This site has been set up to share thoughts and photographs with friends and relatives regarding Peter. This is a work in progress and will change and improve as time goes on. Our thoughts and ideas are, just that, ours. They may or may not agree with Peter's, but that's what makes the world go around (and seems to be an endless source of enjoyment). If your not going to respect Peter's opinions, than please continue reading. He is a conservative in every sense of the word. He feels that a civilized society cannot function without rules and regulations, rights and obligations. Letting the past guide us keeps our society from falling into chaos. Keeping the things that work, to allow for order and freedom, freedom for all, not just the special interest groups. Peter has come to realize that life is short. We should tell the people that we love that we love them as often as possible. One never knows when this may be ones last opportunity to do so. By the way, we will all be watching what is said, not doubt even his mother may very well be reading this. And YES, please wear your shoes into the Parlor!

Hey, hey, now. Slow down my friend. I'll stand for a lot, but I'm not your brother! Remember, I have all my cromostones. Althought it may not be probable, if it were, it would be a girl doing the looking!

Blogger Jo Jo the dogfaced boy said...

Well Expat, If she(in the photo) was the girl, you could do worse. As for having all of your Cromostones(sp) what the hell is a Cromostone??? A Chrome Stone? Honestly. I think all of you people should stop poking fun of everyone until you all learn to spell. This is directed at my family, as it seems Dr. F, Mikey, and Donny M do a fairly good job of it. Chromosome. Spell it with me C-h-r-o-m-o-s-o-m-e.

Jo Jo, maybe he was making some sort of Neanderthalic reference (you know monolith and boulders) or maybe he had the Sly and the family Stone hit "Don't Call Me Nigger, Whitey" on his mind.

I find it more than a co-inky-dink that Expat chose a word with Homo in it...heh, heh, he said Homo, heh.

Blogger Dr. Franklin said...

Though I'm loathe to do it, I need to rush to Expat's defence here on "Chromostone". That word was made famous, spelling as is, by one great American, A. Bunker of 704 Hauser Street in Queens, NY.
Sp in contect, Expat hit it right on with his Archie reference.

Blogger Mike Dubuc said...

Dang, I missed the Archie reference!

Thanks Dr. F, a true gentleman for providing that bit of info.

On another note, after taking a closer look at Chromostone I regret I jumped the gun with my Beavis-like "Homo" comment. Upon a thorough review of all the available information the indefatigable committee has announced after vigorous debate that in fact the word “Homo” is not part of the word Chromostone.

Mike, thank you for those kind words. It pained me to do that as I know this fine forum is for flogging the fiendish Expat. Yet, unlike his hero Franco, I felt compelled to come to the aid of a defenceless soul.

Thank you all. I am ashamed that a brother of mine missed an archie reference. After all we have the LP (yes, Long Play, 33 1/3, in Stereophonic sound) of the first season of "All in the family." I have the entire thing memorized for playing the record so much.

In 1898, during the Spanish-American War, Spanish troops in Santiago, Cuba, surrendered to U.S. forces.

USA! USA! USA! USA!

Today, July 18, 1936 the Spanish Military, led by General Emilio Mola, rose up against the anti-clerical, pro-communist republican government, in order to bring down the leaders and restore order within the republic. Most of the soldiers and leaders shouting "Viva la Republica." The civil war began. General Mola was killed in a plane crash while traveling from his exile in Portugal to lead the rebellion. A group of general took over in his place. Among them, the hero of the war in Morocco, the young Francisco Franco Bahamonde.

During 1937, Franco unified the Nationalist forces under the command of the Falange, Spain's fascist party, while the Republicans fell under the sway of the communists. Germany and Italy aided Franco with an abundance of planes, tanks, and arms, while the Soviet Union aided the Republican side. In addition, thousands of communists and other radicals from France, the USSR, America, and elsewhere formed the International Brigades to aid the Republican cause. The most significant contribution of these foreign units was the successful defense of Madrid until the end of the war.

In June 1938, the Nationalists drove to the Mediterranean Sea and cut Republican territory in two. Later in the year, Franco mounted a major offensive against Catalonia. In January 1939, its capital, Barcelona, was captured, and soon after, the rest of Catalonia fell. With the Republican cause all but lost, its leaders attempted to negotiate a peace, but Franco refused. On March 28, 1939, the Republicans finally surrendered Madrid, bringing the Spanish Civil War to an end. Up to a million lives were lost in the conflict, the most devastating in Spanish history. Franco subsequently served as dictator of Spain until his death in 1975.

Franco's successor as head of state was the current Spanish monarch, Juan Carlos. Though much beloved by Franco, the King held liberal political views which earned him suspicion among conservatives who hoped he would continue Franco's policies. Instead, Juan Carlos would proceed to restore democracy in the nation, and help crush an attempted military coup in 1981.

Since Franco's death, almost all the placenames named after him (most Spanish towns had a calle del Generalísimo) have been changed. This holds particularly true in the regions ruled by parties heir to the Republican side, while in other regions of central Spain rulers have preferred not to change such placenames, arguing they would rather not stir the past. Most statues or monuments of him have also been removed, and, in the capital, Madrid, the last one standing was removed in March 2005.

He was declared a saint by Clemente Domínguez y Gómez (self-declared Pope Gregory XVII) of the Palmarian Catholic Church, a right-wing Catholic mysticalist sect largely based in Spain. Franco's canonization is not recognized by the Roman Catholic Church.

Thank you all for your review. Much appreciated. The Republic communists sent the entire Spanish gold reserve to russia for "safe keeping" toward the end of the war. It was the largest gold reserve in the world. It never returned to Spain and was one of the causes of the difficult economic period post civil war. Franco may have been a dictator but he saved Spain from becomming a Solviet satelite. And he was not a fascist, despite being aligned with them. He was simply a military dictator.

Hello all! Back from vacanza, we all are. 7 fun-filled days in Mattapoisett have re-invigorated and refreshed me. Like Richard Nixon, I'm tanned, rested and ready for re-election! 14lbs of freshly picked blueberries later, and electronic 'Battleship'-ed out we have safely returned Expat's offspring to Nona's house. **note* The Cape Cod Canal has been moved. It's new location is in Carver. For further information see Matt Amorello of the MTA.* I see that the blogging has been steady, but not exciting in the absense Daisy and I. Fear not fresh abuse will commence soon.

It has been a bit quiet these days Don Miguel. I'm not sure what's up. I think it is a Summer malaise. We need some good old fashioned controversy to spark things up. I think Mikey needs to post some new pictures of something. If all else fails we will have the fodder from the Pig Roast to use next week. Hey-If you are awake Mike and I will be spitting the pig and starting the fire about 6AM Sunday morning. Yee Haw! Nothing like no food in your stomach, black coffee and beer to start your day.

7/31--Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola

Suscipe of St. Ignatius:

Suscipe, Domine, universam meam libertatem. Accipe memoriam, intellectum, atque voluntatem omnem. Quidquid habeo vel possideo mihi largitus es; id tibi totum restituo, ac tuae prorsus voluntati trado gubernandum. Amorem tui solum cum gratia tua mihi dones, et dives sum satis, hec aliud quidquam ultra posco.

-or in English—his prayer of Offering:

Take, O Lord, and receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding, and my whole will. You have given me all that I am and all that I possess; I surrender it all to You that You may dispose of it according to Your will. Give me only Your love and Your grace; with these I will be rich enough, and will have no more to desire.

=)
